Friends of DieHappy Forest
DieHappy Forest, just to the west of Bellingen, is an extraordinary ecosystem on Gumbaynggirr Country, the traditional lands of the Gumbaynggirr people on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia.
DieHappy Forest and the DieHappy Creek catchment area has a rich and riotous profusion of wildlife and biodiversity. It contains old growth sub-tropical rainforest, old growth tall eucalypt forest and significant threatened ecological communities. It is the home of many threatened species, plant and animal, and is a known Koala habitat. It is an area that has significant ecological communities of World Heritage value.
DieHappy Forest and the catchment is facing an imminent and existential threat. Astonishingly, NSW Australia still continues the archaic practice of industrial logging of native forests. Having survived countless ice ages, as well as the recent devastating bushfires, the State Government of NSW and the state-owned Forestry Corporation of NSW are, right now, in the final stages of planning the destruction of this jewel of a forest.
Friends of DieHappy Forest are committed to preventing the destruction of this precious wild refuge. Join us.
